Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
(Info: John Julian (03) 9754 3638 or Email: jjulian2@bigpond.net.au for more information or to confirm your place. Bookings are required)

8 week course

An invitation to experiment with greater balance, control and participation in your own life.

Mobilise your mind and body to take charge of your life and cope more effectively with stress, pain or
anxiety. Two decades of published research indicates that the majority of people who complete this stress reduction course report:

  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
  • An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.

This is an enjoyable and challenging course. All groups are small to ensure personal attention. To take
back control of their life participants are expected to practice a range of exercises each week – 45
minutes a day is required.
This course is specifically for health, teaching and welfare professionals
for either personal or professional learning purposes.

This weekly program consists of eight 2.5 hour sessions. Following the initial 8 week session an
optional regular weekly group, and/or ‘top-up half-day’ sessions, will be available. The course includes
four CD’s for use by participants and handouts. (See: http://www.umassmed.edu/cfm/ for more details
about the evidence and history of this course). A pre-interview (can be over the telephone) is required.
The next course start in mid May – bookings are required.

Calm Abiding Meditation
(Info: John Julian (03) 9754 3638 or Email: jjulian2@bigpond.net.au for more information or to confirm your place. Bookings are required)

8 week Calm Abiding (CA) Course

This course will give a basic introduction to meditation from teachings designed by Lama Choedak Rinpoche and based on traditional Buddhist texts. The facilitator is John Julian, a lay practitioner of Buddhism and senior student of Rinpoche.

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to taste the benefits of learning greater peace of mind using meditation; a commitment to Buddhism is not necessary. The course includes teaching, practice and discussion in a seminar format. There will be ample opportunity for clarifying any questions about the practice and for learning a new and practical skill for use in everyday life. The teachings are sequential so attendance each week is encouraged. All groups have strict confidentiality agreements. This evening course will starts on the first Wednesday in May at 7.15pm. A regular support group is then available. The cost of this group is $50.00 for 8 weeks, paid in advance. This program usually has limited positions available so bookings are required. Participants will need a rug and cushion or kneeling stool.
