PRE-CONCEPTION CARE
Pioneered by Sydney naturopath, Francesca
Naish, the programs and methods of the Natural Fertility Management
approach provide women, their partners and families with holistic,
effective and safe solutions for reproductive health needs throughout
life: from puberty to menopause, contraception to conception,
preconception health care to overcoming fertility problems, pregnancy
health care to birth, breastfeeding and beyond. They emphasise the
self-management of reproductive health needs, the primacy of natural
remedies in resolving health issues, the practice of environmentally
healthy lifestyles, and the optimal health of children and future
generations.
Since May 1994 over 1000 natural
therapists and orthodox health practitioners have been trained by
Natural Fertility Management Pty Ltd and are now part of an informal
natural fertility management network. All of these trained counsellors
have other health qualifications e.g. naturopathy, and offer
therapeutic care alongside their natural fertility management methods.

WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE
Absolutely Women's
Health
www.wellwomen.rwh.org.au
The absolutely women's health program is a
health promotion program for all women that is part of the Women's
Health Program of The Royal Women's Hospital. The program has a
holistic approach to health and views each issue from an emotional,
physical, political and social aspect. We hold a variety of events at
the hospital and with other agencies. We aim to celebrate, inform,
debate and discuss contemporary and controversial health issues that
affect women's health and women's lives.
This unique program for a mainstream health care provider has been
successful in raising community awareness, building community
relationships and changing the perception by women and community health
providers of what a hospital offers. The program has positioned The
Royal Women's Hospital as a leader and advocate in women's health
promotion.
Why our program is important:
Because women come from diverse backgrounds
Because women take responsibility for their families/friends/partners
Because women create opportunities to be involved in discussion and
debate
Because women's stories and experiences need to be shared and validated
Because women lead inspiring lives
Our target audience:
All women, with a particular focus on women who are marginalised by the
health system: older, Aboriginal, younger, lesbians, culturally and
linguistically diverse and lower income women
People in the health, community, government and private sectors
Young Women will be our special focus for the next 3 years.
How we deliver our program
Through health promotion and community development principles such as:
Events: monthly forums, health days, art, theatre performances,
conferences, lecture series, debates, storytelling
Support for other women's organisations: events management, promotion
of activities, collaborative ventures
Education and training: professional development and support
Health information: INSTINCT newsletter, media liaison, website,
confidential email list
Collaborative projects with: peak women's organisations, women's health
services, statewide services, community health, indigenous and ethno
specific agencies

Well Women's Website
www.wellwomen.rwh.org.au
The Well Women's web site has
been put together by the Women's Health Program at The Royal Women's
Hospital. The Women's Health Program is a collection of services at the
Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Most of our services
are free of charge and are aimed at meeting the needs of a broad range
of women. A large part of our program is devoted to information and
health promotion, such as the Women's Health Information Centre and
absolutely women's health.
There are also clinics in our program. Mostly, they are clinics that
exist to offer women choice, information and understanding about sexual
health and well being. The women's health nurses and doctors are all
experts in family planning, sexual health and menopause and can provide
a range of treatment options. There are also clinics that are dedicated
to 'wellness'. The Well Women's Clinic, the WOMAN clinic (for older
women) and Breastscreen are there for women to have all of the regular
health checks that are necessary to prevent serious illness and to find
out about other services that are available in the hospital and in the
community.
What links this group of services is our commitment to understanding
the health needs of individual women. There are a whole of lot of
things that will affect our health. Physical, emotional, financial and
cultural influences all play a part in the way we are and the way we
feel. There are also different health solutions for different women.
We have adopted the
name 'Well
Women' for our published information and our web site because our
overriding aim is maintain wellness in our local community of women.
Our information, events, forums, celebrations, clinics and services are
all focussed on providing ways for women to avoid illness or to explore
the range of possible pathways to wellness.
We have created the web site so that more women could access our
information. We know that women are big users of the internet, often in
search of health information. It is our aim to provide a range of
information on contemporary health issues and an avenue for women,
particularly in the state of Victoria, to find the right service and
the right information for them. We also hope to be responsive to issues
that come up on a day to day basis.

Women's Health Victoria
www.whv.org.au
WHV is an independent
state-wide women's health promotion, advocacy and
health information service. The aim of health promotion is to prevent
illness, disease and injury
and promote independence, health and wellbeing using a variety of
interventions. Our work is largely in partnership with service
providers
through whom we reach the maximum number of Victorian women, in
particular women with limited or poor access to services. Our service
is one of two state-wide and nine regional women's health
services which make up the Victorian Women's Health Program. We provide
to women and other organisations a health information telephone line, a
women's health library and web site to ensure women have access to
information that will assist them to make informed decisions about
their health care. We also work collaboratively with women's health
services, general health services, funding bodies and individual health
professionals to ensure greater awareness of, and responsiveness to,
women's health promotion needs within the health system.
